Vehicle Activated Speed Sign (VAS) – Results for Waveney Avenue – June 2026

Vehicle Activated Speed Signs are often used across Brickhill. These LED traffic signage solutions are used for traffic management and have been proven to  drastically improve traffic calming and speed reductions. More importantly, they allow us to download and analyse the data of motorists on given roads, meaning specific trends can be identified and solutions implemented.

Guide – At the top of the report there are some abbreviations and numbers:

Taking the June report:

1. V85: 29mph – this is described as the ‘Police Reference’ and is the 85th percentile (average speed of 15th fastest vehicle per 100 vehicles). In this case, 15% of vehicles are going faster than 29mph and 85% are going slower, on average.
2. VD: 26mph – this is the average speed
3. Vmax: 167mph – the highest speed value recorded during the evaluation period. I think we can take it to be a false reading, but it is similar to other false readings.
4. Speed violation: 7% – so 7% of vehicles are driving at more than 30mph.
5. ADT: 1538 – Average daily total of vehicles

Lower in the report it also shows:

1. V50: 26mph – similar to V85. This is the 50% percentile (average speed of 50th fastest vehicle per 100 vehicles). In this case, 50% of vehicles are going faster than 26mph and 50% are going slower, on average.
2. v30: 24mph – similar to V85. This is the 30% percentile (average speed of 30th fastest vehicle per 100 vehicles). In this case, 70% of vehicles are going faster than 24mph and 30% are going slower, on average.
